Are You Draft Ready?

NATFL Draft Eligibility Standards

The North American Track&Field League (NATFL) Draft is reserved for athletes prepared to compete at a professional standard. Draft eligibility is based on readiness, accountability, and demonstated commitment-not aspiration alone. These standards exist to protect athletes, teams, the league, and the long-term credibility of professional track and field.

Purpose of Draft Standards

NATFL Draft Eligibility Standards ensure that athletes entering the league are prepared for:

  • Professional training expectations

  • Competitive accountability

  • League representation responsibilities

The draft is not an open registration process. It is a selective entry point into a structured professional developmen system.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the NATFL Draft, athletes must meet the following baseline criteria:

Athlete Readiness

Athletes must demonstrate:

  1. Competitive experience at a high-performance level

  2. Event-specific proficiency

  3. Physical readiness to train and compete consistently

  4. Maintain continuous agent representation throughout league participation.

NOTE: Performance history may be reviewed through race results, rankings, verified times, or competition records.

Professional Conduct

Eligibility requires a demonstrated ability to:

  1. Communicate responsibly and reliably

  2. Respect league officials, staff, coaches, teammates, and competitors

  3. Represent teams and the league with professionalism

NOTE: Conduct that undermines league credibility may impact draft consideration and league participation.

Draft Declaration Requirements

All athletes seeking draft consideration must formally declare their intent to enter the NATFL Draft. By declaring, the athlete affirms that they:

  1. Meet or are actively meeting eligibility standards

  2. Understand league expectations and training requirements.

  3. Accept performance-based evaluation and advancement

NOTE: False or misleading information, at any time,  may result in disqualification.

Developmental Review & Deferral

Athletes who show potential but not draft-ready may be:

  1. Deferred to a developmental phase

  2. Recommended for further preparation

  3. Invited to reapply in a future draft cycle

NOTE: Deferral is not rejection; it is a developmental decision made tin the athlete’s best interes

Training Commitment

Draft-eligible athletes must show:

  1. Consistent training history

  2. Willingness to follow structured development plans

  3. Ability to maintain year-round preparation appropriate to their event

  4. Work and train continuously with NATFL-approved coaches.

NOTE: Athletes unable to commit to professional training and league demands may be deferred or deemed ineligible

Performance-Based Evaluation

Draft-eligibility is determined through a comprehensive evaluation that may include:

  1. Competitive results and progression trends

  2. Training consistency and readiness

  3. Injury history and durability considerations

  4. Event depth and league needs

NOTE: Meeting minimum standards does not guarantee draft selection.

No Guarantee of Selection or Placement

Draft eligibility does not guarantee:

  1. Draft selection

  2. Team placement

  3.  Contract offers

NOTE: All opportunities within NATFL are earned through performance, readiness, and adherence to league rules and standards.

Review Athlete Expectations

Draft eligibility is directly tied to full acceptance of league rules and standards.

Athletes are strongly encouraged to review the Athlete Expectation page before declaring for the draft.
